A record is highlighted, but the reason is unclear

A highlighted record usually means something in that record needs checking. Open it, review visible values and warnings, fix any issue, save, then retry your previous action.

What this usually means

A record is highlighted, but the highlight on its own does not make the problem clear.

When this happens, the practical next step is to open the record and check the values shown there before you try the same action again.

Why this happens

  • A value in the record is incomplete.

  • A value in the record does not match another value.

  • A recent edit changed one part of the record, but another visible value still needs updating.

  • The highlighted row does not make the reason obvious.

What to check and how to fix it

Open the highlighted record and check the values you changed most recently.

If one of those values is incomplete, incorrect, or no longer current, correct it and save the record before moving on.

Check all visible fields in the record for blanks, placeholder text, or unexpected values.

If you find one, update it and save the record.

Check whether the open record shows any visible warning, prompt, or flagged field.

If it does, fix that item first and save before checking anything else.

Compare the same fields against a completed record of the same type.

If the highlighted record is filled differently and that difference is not intended, correct the value and save the record.

After saving, return to the list and check whether the same record is still highlighted.

If it is, reopen the record and re-check any visible warning, flagged field, or recently changed value before retrying your previous action.

What happens next

After you save a correction, check the record again and retry your previous action. If the highlight is no longer there, continue with your work. If it is still there, keep the check focused on the visible values in that record.
